do you have to use the specifically tsa locks in your luggage?
i’m going to be traveling on monday and i want to put locks on my luggage. i know that there is special tsa locks that you could use but can you use your own locks.
Locks, TSA or otherwise, are attracting attention to would-be thiefs. What do you have in your luggage that requires locking? What is travel insurance for if not for replacing stolen items? Note that so-called TSA locks are only relevant to domestic US flights and have zero significance or status anywhere outside north America.
Security in any airport will open your luggage no matter what. You have to ask yourself “why am I locking it?”. Keep your valuables with you and your replaceables in your baggage. Put a lock on it and you might as well put a huge sign on it saying, “steal me, there’s something valuable in here”.
Oh, and put your itinerary, name, and address ***inside*** the luggage in case the baggage tag gets ripped off (it happens). It’s much easier for the airline to return the baggage to its rightful owner in such cases.
